Being a close friend of the groom, I was fortunate enough to be part of the entire process leading up to the big day. Marlisse & Troy shared their excitement and love for each other throughout the planning, and I could tell this day was going to be full of personal touches that made it extra special. The ceremony took place on La Valencia’s ocean-view terrace, with the California coastline as the perfect backdrop while Marlisse & Troy exchanged their vows. There was a triumphant entrance for the groom and his parents and even personalized handshakes for the groomsman. It was then time to reveal the bride across the courtyard as she emerged from the bridal suite. It was an emotional exchange that had everyone in attendance feeling the deep love they share. There’s something so special about a wedding ceremony that takes place with the sound of the ocean in the background, and I know this moment will live on in their memories forever.
Breathtaking Cliffside Portraits
After the ceremony, we headed out to a cliffside overlooking the breathtaking Pacific Ocean. The view was, of course, spectacular, but what made it even more special was the mood of the day. We had hoped to catch the perfect golden hour light for some dreamy portraits, but instead, the overcast sky offered a soft, diffused light that added a romantic, ethereal vibe to the entire session. There’s something uniquely beautiful about overcast light—it creates a softness that’s perfect for portraits, and that’s exactly what we got.
As Marlisse’s dress flowed in the gentle breeze, and Troy couldn’t stop smiling, I could feel the love between them. It was so natural and effortless—this was a couple that was just truly in love. The waves crashing below provided a soundtrack to the moment, and the backdrop of the San Diego coastline was the perfect setting for their portraits. These moments, captured without the traditional golden-hour glow, showed that sometimes the most beautiful pictures happen when you embrace the light you have, and San Diego never disappoints.

The room was full of energy, and the joy that filled the air was contagious. The first dance, with all its intimate moments, set the tone for the rest of the night. Heartfelt toasts from their closest friends and family were followed by non-stop laughter, dancing, and a fresh pair of white Converse for the bride. There was nothing quite like being part of a celebration like this—a moment where two people’s love is shared and celebrated by everyone around them. It was no doubt a party that everyone will be talking about for years to come!
